I printed out the pictures for Mae but as she has terrible arthritis I customized a photo book for her from Shutterfly. There is this fantastic, giant sculpture in City Hall known as Three Heads Six Arms. It was quite moving as the Gentleman in the corner was hysterically crying and bowing down to the Buddah goddess and others in the square also appeared to be offering their prayers. December 8, 2010.

Day 319. Crab Season

Dungeness Crab Seaso n is a much anticipated time in San Francisco. It usually kicks off on November 15th. each year. But if the quality of the crab is uncertain, or if the crabbers and seafood wholesalers can't agree on a price, the season hangs in limbo. Lucky for us, it was delayed this year for only short time. Day 318. Mt. Diablo Overlook

I biked up to the very top of Mt. Diablo which is about 3850 feet at the summit. This was about 2 miles from the top. Glorious Day! November 14, 2010.

Day 291. Apple

This may look like an ordinary building on a street called Infinite Loop, but its not. It is Appl e, Where the Magic Happens and where I had a meeting today. Apple is a part of my daily life including the use of my Mac, iPhoto, iTunes, iPhone, iPod and my soon to come iPad, all of which I can not imagine living without! Day 290. We Did It!!!

Despite my injured toe, Debbie's jet lag due to arriving the day before from Boston and the rain - we ran the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco!!! It was pouring when we finished the race and there were no more of the tinfoil blankets they give out at the end, so the Medical volunteers provided us with these cool souvenir T-shirts to wear home. Larry and I made it to the top! We did the 11.2 mile bike ride that climbs 3,249 feet to the summit of Mount Diablo. All proceeds benefit Save Mount Diablo's land conservation efforts. October 3, 2010.

Day 265. Mae's Doll Project Completed

These are some of the prints from the 54 dolls that I photographed of Mae's Madam Alexander Dolls. It was such fun to hear Mae say, "they are soooo beauuuutiful! when she at last saw her dolls again." She is disabled and was unable to see them for years as they were stored in her closet. During a Full Circle Event that I covered, COO of Game Operations, Marcus Segal talked about his experiences while he was in Haiti where Zynga has provided educational and financial assistance after the earthquake. Day 243. Red Vines Anyone?

Red Vines licorice is quite popular again these days especially with a little help from a social media campaign that is spreading goodwill, one licorice strand at a time. It appears the man, Christopher St. John of St. John Creative has attracted the attention of Maria Ogneva of Attensity and Shannon Light of Catalyst with the new but old, Old Spice. The question is, is the Old Spice attracting the Ladies as the campaign suggests? August 25, 2010.

Day 236. Chicken and Broccoli in White Wine with Penne

I had this dish when I was at an Italian restaurant in Boston and decided to try it when I came home. I forgot chicken broth so it definitely wasn't as tasty as at the restaurant but it was good! August 24, 2010.

Its amazing how one can track their route while flying in the air. I took a picture of my route from Atlanta to San Francisco. I had to take the detour down to Atlanta from Boston as I was taking advantage of Delta Frequent Flier SkyMiles that gave me no choice. August 23, 2010.

As a little girl I spent more time at my next door neighbors house than my own. Mother Rosie and the sisters Bevie and Roberta always welcomed me at all times. When Julie Carla was born I was 11 and supposedly Bevie named her little girl after me! I am now known as Julie Robin. August 17, 2010.

My friend Ben and I travelled in Costa Rica together awhile back. We used to do triathlons too. Ben lives in Boston now so we got together while I am visiting my family here. Ben has two birthdays - May 27th. is his official one but when his family came here from Korea, they possibly mistakenly wrote down the 5 as a 2 and on paper his birthday is February 27th. As I always seem to miss both, we celebrated his birthday last night. August 13, 2010.

Day 224. Cheryl

I met Cheryl back in 1997 when I was travelling alone to Club Med, hoping to meet boys while scuba diving. Instead I met Cheryl and its never been a dull moment since. Although I moved to San Francisco, we would meet up on vacations in Las Vegas, Mexico and even in the Caribbeans where we sailed on Windjammers. Travelling to her wedding in Vermont where she became Cheryl O'Neil was the most special trip. Here Cheryl is content to sit on her front porch with her plants, with no intentions of going anywhere but to her home with David in Newton, Massachusetts. August 12, 2010.

Yipppee - 212 out of 365 days have been completed for my Project 366-1 2010 Group on Flickr!

This month seemed especially challenging as I fell behind in my postings and at one point posted 11 images to the Flickr group and then to this blog in one long posting session. I am not spending as much time viewing the group photos and seeing what others have captured in their day which is a bummer as that is the fun in being a part of this group.

Some of my favorite photos for the month of July were Pretty in Pink where I used a tin foil sheet to reflect the colors and the tube appeared to be a heart, pulling over to the side of the road in Sonoma to photograph the cows in Smile Please and Poolside at the SF Newt Tech's Summer Social event at the Stonebrook Estate in Palo Alto. I also did an interesting photo walk at Albany Bulb led by Thomas Hawke where I came upon a homeless encampment where they set up a "free" library. Still working on those photos but check out the group's phenomenal pics!

Day 187. The Mount Diablo Challenge

The Mount Diablo Challenge ride is on October 3, 2010. Its an 11.2 mile bike ride that climbs 3,249 feet to the summit of Mount Diablo. Today I made it a quarter a way up and took this photo of the antenna at the top right of the hill from where the rock is. I have lots of riding to do until then! July 6, 2010.

The Lafayette Hillside Memorial was started in 2006 as a memorial to the fallen soldiers of Iraq. As you can see in the photo, the number of fallen soldiers has reached a staggering 5,507 with a cross on the hill representing each and everyone of them. July 1, 2010.

I have now completed 181 of 365 days uploaded to Project 366-1 2010 Group on Flickr and I am halfway completed with my project to post a picture a day for 365 days!

There are days that I have trouble choosing which photo to post as my picture of the day and other days that I find myself entirely uninspired to even want to pick up my camera. I welcomed the check in and Inspiration discussion within the group about how we felt halfway through the project.

Some of my favorite photos for the month of June were ones when I captured a "moment in time" such as this photo of my new kitty, Ricki Rasta, as he balances himself on the plates in the dishwasher. It was a treat having a media pass that allowed me to get close to Lauryn Hill who performed at the Harmony Festival. I also loved getting dolled up to take photos at the Monte Carlo charity event held in City Hall.

There is a war going on in the Bay Area over who has the best pizza in the area. I have tested out a dozen or so pizza joints and it always comes back to Pizzeria Picco in Larkspur. The pizza is made with the finest organic ingredients and the crust is Neapolitan thin crust style but the secret ingredient is most definitely the wood burning pizza oven. June 27, 2010.

Day 166. Game 6. Lakers vs. Celtics.

Although I had the best seat in the house in front of my big screen TV, I had great difficulty capturing a shot with the right color (the tint was off on the TV) and its a bit fuzzy, but I do like the composition. It was wicked awesome (that is Boston talk) that the Lakers won. I am considered a traitor though as I am from Boston after all. Maybe if the Celtics imported more Celebrities at the game it would be more exciting to cheer for Boston. June 15, 2010.

I have now completed 151 of 365 days uploaded to Project 366-1 2010 Group on Flickr. Its definitely a struggle to keep up with it and I am finding myself viewing less pictures posted from the group which is disappointing as there are so many amazing pictures from around the world to discover just within our little Flickr group.

My favorite picture in May was of an Ostrich near Las Trampas state park. The very next day at the 111 Art Gallery while covering the SF AppShow I saw the coolest painting of another Ostrich. I also shot interesting events this month including MashMeet, Snaptic Developer Conference and TEDxSoMa. It was also pretty cool to come across Banksy Graffiti especially after seeing his movie "Exit Through the Gift Shop."

Even though I prefer to capture the fun, interesting and spontaneous moments of life, I continue to find I shoot more people & events that are centered around technology more than any other category. Although, I did manage to capture some fun flower and nature shots such as the Ostrich.

My friend Stacie and I worked on our friend Mae's project to take pictures of her collection of over 50 dolls. They have been stored in her closet so she was thrilled to see them. She giggled like a school girl over how "preeeettty" they were. This is a picture of her as a young woman that she kept on her wall. I have now completed 120 of 365 days uploaded to Project 366-1 2010 Group on Flickr. Travel and Moving do not make for smooth sailing when doing this project. It takes a lot of discipline to stay focused on it in spite of lack of time, access to a computer to upload, lost cords and even lost camera bags. I was shooting an event when I discovered my camera bag was no where to be found. It was picked up by accident, causing me quite some unexpected anxiety. Fortunately, not only did I recover my gear, I met an incredible videographer/photographer/writer who is a producer at Frontline. This is his amazing documentary Sri Lanka: Living with Terror.

Highlights of April included joining the Photo Blog Caliber and shooting amazing, colorful shots in the Mission along with spending the day at Alcatraz when my brother and the family visited from Boston. In addition, I also shot a number of events including Social Gaming 101, SF New Tech and SF AppShow .

I found that I am shooting more people & event shots than any other category and the project has become more like a daily journal through the eyes of my lens.

The best kept secret in San Francisco! The House is an Asian Fusion restaurant in a tiny little spot at Grant and Columbus in North Beach. It is beyond yummy. My favorites include the salmon rolls with mustard sauce and the miso-glazed black sea bass but its worth trying out their specials and others from their always changing menu. Don't forget to make reservations as its usually a long wait otherwise. April 23, 2010.

Today I started a project of photographing my 75 year old friend Mae's doll collection of over 50 dolls. I am doing it with the help of my friend Stacie. We hope to put together a book for Mae with details about each doll. Mae won this doll from a raffle at the Talbots Toyland where she has collected other dolls as they are pretty and cute. This doll is very special as Mae gave the doll to me for helping her see her dolls again. They have been stacked in her closet for years. April 22, 2010.

I thought it strange when I saw the movie "When You're Strange" about the band The Doors, that there was only a simple piece of paper to announce its location. I thought it was a fascinating movie with mostly authentic footage from that era and narration by Johnny Depp. I had no idea that the band took their name from the title of Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception which was a reference to the 'unlocking' of 'doors' of perception through psychedelic drug use and Huxley's own title was a quotation from William Blake, the 18th. Century Artist and Poet. "If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite." April 11, 2010.

Day 98. Invasion of the Sneakers.

While walking by Chrome on 4th. Street I came across their window display of sneakers. They did a promotion through their Facebook page where they offered to send a free pair of new Chrome shoes if they shipped their old ones to Chrome. The sneakers where then donated the shoes to St. Vincent de Paul and more to be sent to Haiti. April 8, 2010.

Day 97. Red Java House.

Red's Java House is located on Pier 30 in San Francisco and is a well known landmark. There have been rumors that it closed down when The Chronicle reported that the port had raised its rent from $800 to $4,429 with just a few days notice. But both sides settled on a rent of $2,045. The doors are wide open so we can breathe a sigh of relief. April 7, 2010.

Day 96. The Purple Teddy Bear.

I took a workshop on tabletop photography to learn more about shooting collectibles. There is a lot to consider for this one little stuffed bear. There are the lights, the shadows, the composition and then the realization that you will want to buy even more equipment if you are going to do it right. April 6, 2010.

Day 95. Hotel Rooms.

I spotted this building with an old advertisement for Hotel Rooms painted on it. This type of promotion used to be common on brick buildings but in this modern day, they are not easy to locate. April 5, 2010.

I have now completed 90 of 365 days of photos uploaded to Project 366-1 2010 Group on Flickr. It is no longer so difficult to come up with a picture of the day but at times I finding I am becoming less creative and settling on posting my shot of the day. It is also still veru challenging to post pictures in a timely way especially when I am traveling as I did this month to Boston for 10 days.

I am appreciating more and more the benefits of being a part of my Flickr group. I love the themed contests where we post our picture and then vote on our favorites. I was thrilled to earn the 3rd. place tie for the "text" themed contest. I also enjoy the time at the end of the month when everyone posts their pictures in mosaics and shares their posts throughout the month.

March pictures included a lot of green as one might expect during the month of St. Patty's Day. Covering the Doublehanded Lightship sailing event was exciting but challenging as I raced to capture each boat as it came into view. My biggest highlight of the month was my sister's surprise birthday party and visiting friends in Boston. Pictures fell into numerous categories including:

Visiting Boston - Day 84 to Day 94

At the end of March and beginning of April I traveled to Boston, Massachusetts. During that time I celebrated my sister Lisa's 50th. Birthday, Passover and being back home with friends and family. As my boyfriend Larry was with me, I rediscovered how magical Boston is by visiting the JFK Museum and the North Shore as if I was a tourist.

Day 90. Surpirse!!!

My mother threw a surprise Party for my sister Lisa's 50th. Birthday. On the left I took a group picture before she arrived. On the right is a surprised Lisa Blaustein Fish. Lisa is loved by all her friends for being such a fun person to be around and always up for a game of Majon, tennis or going out to eat. She is also the most resourceful person one can find and is known to always be ready to help one one in a pinch. Lisa is like a 2nd. mother to me and my best friend. March 31, 2010.

Day 89. JFK's Life Memorial Edition.

David Powers was the Museum Curator of the JFK Museum in 1988. He was also once the Secretary to John F. Kennedy. Because I had interned for Senator Kennedy I was granted a special audience with him at the museum. He signed this special Memorial Edition from Life Magazine. After recently visiting the museum while in Boston, I looked for it in my mother's cellar and found the magazine. March 30, 2010.

Day 87. A Lake for Now.

New England is not known for its mild weather. While visiting there, it snowed, rained, caused a National Emergency due to flooding and then cleared up and was in the 70's. This is a picture of my mother's backyard which is usually not a lake but became one as a result of all the rain. March 28, 2010.

I was a photographer for the Full Circle Fund event where Chris Hughes spoke about the power of online networking. He is the Co-Founder of Facebook and the man behind President Obama's Online Campaign. He is now launching a non-profit site called Jumo, which means "together in concert” in Yoruba, a West African language. Its purpose is to connect individuals and organizations working to change the world. Although a lofty initiative, I believe with his track record, he will not only succeed but will change the world for the better. March 23, 2010.

Day 72. The Starting Line.

This is the starting line for the Division B sailboats in the 2010 IYC
Double Handed Lightship. The race starts at the Golden Gate YC
and sails out through the lighted buoy marking the entrance to the
Golden Gate ship channel and back. Its only about 25 miles but can
be dangerous. Two years ago 2 men tragically never sailed back

Day 60. Mafia Hit

There is a parking lot next to my building where the owners of this classic car appear to have had a falling out with perhaps the mafia. Its front right tire is flat and the front window has been blown out by what appears to be a bullet hole. As its always there, I wonder if they are paying for the lot? March 1, 2010.

High-Rise Condos, appears to me as if it were made of legos.

Day 62. Clementina Street

I was trying to find a parking spot in the Mission when I came across this
funky building on Clemintina Street and 8th. Street. March 3, 2010.

Day 63. A Heart in the City

There were over 130 sculptured hearts created by local artists that were
installed throughout the City and in the Bay Area in 2004. They were
later auctioned off for benefits. This heart represents Mission Bay and
its modern architecture. March 4, 2010.

Day 64. Seagull on its Turf

I could not resist a beautiful picture of seagulls hanging out on their turf
by the house boats of Mission Bay. Perhaps I was inspired by a man I
met earlier at the park earlier who had a tattoo of the "Seagull" from the
story of Jonathan Livingston and told me how he got the tattoo as the
seagull reminds him that he can do anything that he puts his mind to do.

Alcatraz Island

Lucky to have a zoom lens handy and to be by the waterfront to capture this photo of Alcatraz Island. It was my friend Stacie's Birthday brunch at Greens Restaurant. Have you ever been to the island? During the spring it blooms with flowers and you would never know it was a prison for criminals such as Al Capone.

I have now completed 59 of my 365 days of photos to uploaded to the Project 366-1 2010 Group on Flickr. It is getting easier to come up with shots but more difficult to stay on schedule. One of the rules is you can only post a pictures from the day it was taken (as recorded from your camera) but you do not have to post that day. That caused me to fall behind when I was travelling and I'm still playing catch up. As a result I am just now posting the month of February.

Its still difficult coming up with more creative shots rather than just shots to get in for the "picture of the day." I know I am not the only one who feels that way as there was a discussion about that in the Project 366-1 2010 Group.

I learned how to add text to my mosaic. I was so frustrated trying to figure it out for January's when all along it was such a simple solution.
1. Go to Big Huge Labs and create your mosaic - It also has many more fun photo projects
2. Download and Save image to your computer.
3. Upload image to Flickr.
4. Edit image with Picnic and Add in Text.

February pictures were mostly of water and nature as would be expected from an Aquarius and from being on vacation at Cabos San Lucas. A highlight of the month was being on a boat and shooting the 40 foot waves of the Maverick Surf Competition. I also took numerous people pictures including the Genomics and the Purim Follies. The remaining categories are found below with a few overlapping in categories:

Day 58.

I photographed the annual Purim Follies at Temple Emanu-el in San Francisco where folks gather to Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim with costumes and skits. Its similar to Saturday Night Live but with Purim themes. Purim celebrations have been taking place for 2400 years to be thankful that the evil Haman's plans to destroy the Jews of Persia were foiled. This picture is of attendees dressed up as "Where's Waldo's?"

Day 50

I arrived in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on February 19th. for a birthday get away with my boyfriend Larry. This was the view outside our room when we arrived. Blue skies, blue pool and warm weather, not bad! February 19, 2010.

I was in Cabo San Lucas with my boyfriend Larry from February 19th. to February 26th. I have included all my picture's of the day in one blog post. It was so difficult to pick just one picture as my favorite of the day so here is the set of pics from my trip.

My friend Stacie and I started to visit Mae a couple of years ago to keep her company during the holidays. She is now our very special friend. We call her our Buddah Doll. She has terrible arthritis in her hands and has bad circulation in her legs, yet she never complains to us about it. She loves dolls, hearts and stickers. In fact she has asked me to photograph all 78 of her dolls so that she will be able to see them rather than have them hidden in their shoe boxes deep in her closet. Here she is thrilled by her Valentines Gift and the many hearts she received.

Mavericks Surf Contest

Day 44.

I spent the day on a 43 foot boat up close to the Mavericks Surf Competition. The surfers came from as far away as South Africa to Half Moon Bay within 24 hrs. notice to compete for the glory and the $50,000 prize. There were over 40 to 50 foot waves that contributed to a very exciting day indeed.
